Center for Food Function and Labeling
We conduct work and research related to the nutrition and health functions of food to help promote health through diet. Nutritional information labels provide details about the calorie and nutrient content of food, helping people choose foods that are beneficial to their health. We conduct research to ensure the accuracy of nutritional information labels and to contribute to formulation and revision of related laws and regulations. We also aim to propose healthy eating habits by clarifying the safety and functionality of nutrients and other food components, mainly in relation to diet. Furthermore, we conduct research to eliminate health hazards caused by "health foods" and to ensure that people have a correct understanding of "health foods," including health functional foods, and how to use them.
・Laboratory of Food Analysis and Labeling
We measure the nutritional components listed on food labels, as well as the active ingredients in Foods for Specified Health Uses (FOSHU), in accordance with legal regulations to verify that they are present as stated. Additionally, we develop and refine analytical methods for these components.
・Laboratory of Food Safety and Function
We conduct research on the safety and functionality of nutrients and other food components that promote health through diet. Our research includes studying the impact of health food consumption on nutrient imbalances and developing nutritional profiles that support a healthy well-balanced diet.
・Laboratory of Food and Health Information
We aim to eliminate health risks associated with so-called health foods by providing information to promote accurate knowledge and by engaging in risk communication activities and related research.
